Thidarat Kaha: trust who you’re becoming

Dec 14, 2011

Nomadic beginnings: As a child Thidarat Kaha moved a lot, different countries as well as different homes. During her nomadic childhood making friends was not an issue – meeting children with different upbringings and from different cultures inspired her, and she loved listening to people talk about their heritage and experiences in life. For the young designer, remembering your roots and where you are coming from is important and a big part of the person you are – and the one you are becoming.

From an early age Thidarat had an interest in clothing and construction, but at the age of 9 Jean Paul Gaultier made it clear for her that fashion would be her calling: she knew she  wanted to become a designer after watching a documentary about Madonna on tour wearing her iconic ‘cone bra’

Becoming a designer: The most important thing she learned during her time at studying fashion at Westminster  was that you have to believe in yourself, because if you don’t no one else will!  Take constructive criticism, but trust your own judgment and follow your heart. She also picked up some skills about how to develop as a designer and the pleasure of working with some of her most inspirational figures in the industry.

About inspiration: For Thidarat the most inspiring place is in her head, working with headphones on listening to a good soundtrack supports the mood she is in. Besides music, differences and people inspires and fascinates her, she loves watching and listening to people, a trait from childhood. Her home city of London is her favourite fashion place, the city is diverse and vibrant with ample art culture, for Thidarat music and fashion go hand in hand.
