Eleonora Abbate – Erupted transformation

Fascinated by the fragile atmosphere after the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in 1631, designer Eleonora Abbate found the source of inspiration for her collection “Magma”, in the victims that were found after the catastrophe. The eruptive shapes of the garments are similar to how the hot melting magma was transformed into lava.

The colour black in the collection represents the sadness, the smoke and the dust, and nude pink symbolises the color of the bare skin.

Eleonora is a young Italian designer and a Polimoda graduate. She has Sicilian origins and the love for her land and its landscapes inspire her work. It is inspired by the volcanoes, lava and magma. She studied the evolution of shapes and colors in volcanic eruptions and the way they originated materials and shapes in nature. Eleonora imagines the woman that wears her clothes as a ruler, but helpless in the face of the force of nature.
