Barbara í Gongini, Queen of Darkness at CPHFW
Seeing the Barbara í Gongini’s dark spring/summer 13 show at Tap 2, a warehouse space at the outskirts of Copenhagen, was the perfect end to a day filled with colourful impressions.
Barbara í Gongini is the queen of Nordic darkness and the models dressed up in her gothic avant-garde pieces, looked like creatures coming out from a dark forest caught in spider web… I was waiting for bats flying out of their hair.
As one of the most conceptual shows at Copenhagen Fashion week, I just have to share the whole thing:
Barbara í Gongini graduated from the Danish Design School in 1996 and launched her own label in 2005. During her creative process she collide fashion and art by working closely with photographers, filmmakers and musicians.
She chooses to solely work with ecological materials such as organic cotton, wool, lamb leather and goat skin and to focus on sustainability and fair trade. Her environmental awareness has been highly appreciated, and in 2010 she won the Ethical Award from the Danish Fashion Award Committee.
MUUSE has their own set of goth designers… Check out Sylvia McElroy and Marianna Barksdale!
